Christ Is The Answer – A Passage That Punctures Pride

#Pride is everywhere today, celebrated by the World.  But what does the #Bible say about pride?  Pride was the original sin.  Have we learned our lesson yet?  How can we puncture pride by looking at ourselves in the mirror of the Word?  How self confident should we be of gifts we have received from God?  What is it about pride that makes us slow down before the race is over?  We love to compare ourselves to others, but rarely do we compare ourselves to the apostles.  Listen for a special note on political correctness.  What are we willing to put aside for the Kingdom of God?  One more test of pride is how do you retaliate when wronged?

#Blood is essential to #life.  Why is it so important to #Christians?  How powerful is the blood of the perfect God/man?  What ritual from the Old Testament was perfectly completed in the shedding of the blood of Jesus Christ?  Did Jesus voluntarily shed His blood only for His disciples?  How does the blood of Jesus wash away sin?

Mosaics Of The Master – Christ The Sunshine of Life – Demonstrated By A Sign – Blind Man Healed

Does #darkness have any properties?  No, it is just the absence of #light.  #Jesus Christ said, ‘I am the light.’  What should we take away from the fact that Jesus stopped to #heal this man from a birth defect?  What Old Testament prophecy about the messiah did this fulfill?  Are disabilities or even setbacks due to sin?  How can an illness glorify God?  Did Jesus wait for an audience to do this miracle?  Did Christ need the materials He used to heal the man?  As unbelievers, did we not experience this same miracle?

Note from a sermon I heard today:  Painful situations for Christians are like stained glass, up close they look jagged and random but when we get some distance, we can see a beautiful picture.

Are you #paralyzed by #hopelessness?  Where can we find #hope?  There was a pool at Bethesda rumored to have healing properties.  An immobile man was trying his best to get into the pool when Jesus came along.  Did Jesus help him into the pool?  Or did He speak a miracle over the man that taught us an even better lesson?  What could have caused Jesus to single this man out?  What is the significance of the question He asked the man?  Maybe you are suffering not from a physical ailment but a sinful state of living.  Jesus Christ can forgive your sin and that is even more significant than any physical condition you might have.  You just have to trust and obey.

Study In A Stable – Jesus

Whether you say #HappyHolidays or #MerryChristmas, whether you support #Antifa or #Brexit, God sent Hs son, Jesus to save you.  The New Testament of the Bible begins with the birth of Jesus, but did you know that His birth fulfilled over 300 prophecies in the Old Testament about the Savior?  Can we really say that we would have been smarter than the Jewish scholars that didn’t recognize their long awaited King when he was born into such lowly beginnings?  We all start as a humble sinless child just like Jesus did, but do we stay that way?  Did Jesus?  We are born innocent and trusting.  What happens to that as we grow up?  Babies don’t worry about the future or the past, they are all about the now.  What did Jesus tell us about that attitude?

Which Is Easier

I’m doing something a little #different today. Usually I bring you an audio message from Brother Tommy. Today the #Lord wanted me to share what He gave me from Luke 5:17-26.

Luke 5:17-26
Jesus Heals a Paralytic
On one of those days, as he was teaching, Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting there, who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was with him to heal. And behold, some men were bringing on a bed a man who was paralyzed, and they were seeking to bring him in and lay him before Jesus, but finding no way to bring him in, because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and let him down with his bed through the tiles into the midst before Jesus. And when he saw their faith, he said, “Man, your sins are forgiven you.” And the scribes and the Pharisees began to question, saying, “Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?” When Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answered them, “Why do you question in your hearts? Which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Rise and walk’? But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he said to the man who was paralyzed—“I say to you, rise, pick up your bed and go home.” And immediately he rose up before them and picked up what he had been lying on and went home, glorifying God. And amazement seized them all, and they glorified God and were filled with awe, saying, “We have seen extraordinary things today.”

When you read this passage, how do you answer Christ’s question? Which is easier to say your sins are forgiven you or rise and walk? Well much like his audience of teachers and Pharisees for a long time I would have answered that the unseen was easier. I can tell you your sins are forgiven very easily but to heal you, I would need physical proof. But Jesus knew that the physical was temporary and simple, but that to forgive this man’s sins He would have to sacrifice His own life. God cares about our physical well being but He cares much more about our eternal outcome. One of the most frequently asked questions is why do we have to suffer? If God took care of our every setback on Earth before we even asked, would we even see our need to trust Him? Would a child grow and mature if constantly sheltered and protected? Would we need a Savior if we led a charmed life?

Why We Never Get By With Sin

Bible Audio Blog

The #Bible says #obedience is better than #sacrifice.  And yet the #World says better to ask #forgiveness than #permission.  Once again, worldly wisdom is at odds with biblical teaching.  Many people never get the message of God, and their life suffers for it.  We are often told there is no black and white, only shades of grey.  That’s called moral relativism.  Who benefits if we never get this concept?  Here, Brother Tommy is telling us about a king who was supposed to destroy everything of the enemy in war, and yet the bleating of the sheep gave him away.  What gives our sins away?  What excuse did the king give for his disobedience?  Did it work?  Will it work for us today?  What part does conscience play?  How about scripture?  Is there consequence or judgment for disobedience?  The grace of Jesus Christ takes away one but not the other.  We will never get by with sin, but we can get rid of it.

What is wrong with looking out for #1?  Where does serving #self first get us?  What does serving others have to do with #freedom in #Christ?  Does freedom in Christ mean freedom to sin?  What does freedom have to do with servitude?  What should this service look like and what should it not look like?  Listen to the list of things that happen when people live selfishly and ask yourself if you don’t see more of that every year?  Now, listen to the list of the Fruit of the Spirit and ask yourself if you have them?  These grow by following Jesus and serving others in love.
