Word of Conflict

There is much evidence of #Jesus’ divinity.  But he was human as well.  There is perhaps no better example of the #conflict this created than this passage of scripture.  With which of the disciples can you most relate?  What significance is there in the location where Jesus chose to pray?  How was Christ tempted in the Garden?  How was His prayer the perfect response?  What was about to be taken from Jesus that will never be taken from us?

Word of Comprehension

#Words make a difference.  #Jesus is referred to as the Living Word.  So how important were the last words he spoke while still here on Earth?  This message is part one of a series Brother Tommy delivered on Christ’s last words.  Did Jesus ride into Jerusalem less than a week before His crucifixion and subsequent resurrection without comprehending what was about to happen?  How can we tell?  How was He preparing His disciples and Himself for the coming events?  What does the name Jerusalem mean?  How does Jesus stack up to other rulers past and present?  How did Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem on a donkey fulfill Old Testament prophecy?  How does the Bible say that He will return?

How to Live Till You Die

19851006 How To Live Till You Die - Rev. Tommy Jones

A young #friend of my son just had his life tragically cut short.  Is there #LifeAfterDeath?  What does the Bible say?  What does it say about life before death?  How can we be victorious in life or death?  Who or what is the source of abundant eternal life?  How does Christianity differ from all the religions of the World?  Where can we find strength and satisfaction for everyday life?  What changed Paul’s thinking on death?

Rest In Peace

#RIP or #RestInPeace, we see it on #Facebook or #Twitter whenever someone passes away.  But, what does it mean and is it possible?  What is the Sabbath and how does it relate to rest?  Does God get tired?  Why did He take a day of rest?  God set an example, but what did He command us concerning a day of rest?  Why do Christians worship and rest on the first day of the week instead of the seventh?  What does all of this have to do with the Passover?  What does the Sabbath that comes from God through his Son, Jesus Christ, have to do with eternal rest?

Jesus, God’s Last Word

19831129pm Jesus - God's Last Word - Rev. Tommy Jones

God’s Word, the #Bible, has always been #controversial.  Did anyone ever attempt to destroy all copies?  Did it work?  Why not?  Who is the living Word?  How was God’s Word delivered to us?  How were people saved in the Old Testament?  How can they be saved now?  Was Jesus Christ mentioned in the Old Testament?  What is Jesus doing now?  What have we been told about Christ’s future actions?

After #Jesus Christ triumphed over the grave, why did He leave?  What else needed to be done?  Did He leave us to fend for ourselves?  Who is the Comforter?  How does the Holy Spirit further God’s plan for us?  Where did Jesus go and will He return?

A Dress Rehearsal For Calvary

19880424 A Dress Rehearsal For Calvary - Rev. Tommy Jones

We just celebrated the sacrificial #crucifixion and triumphant #resurrection of our Lord and Savior #Jesus Christ.  He was the only one that was ever worthy enough to complete this accomplishment.  But was there a foreshadowing of this event as far back as the first book of the Bible?  How does the history of Abraham and Isaac parallel what we have been told about God the Father and His only Son?  Where do we think this test of faith occurred for Abraham and Isaac?  There is every evidence that Isaac knew what was happening and yet what was his attitude?  How did this dramatic dress rehearsal end?

The LIVING GOD #CHASTENS

How does God’s #LOVE correspond to His CHASTENING?    Chasten is defined by Webster as correcting by punishment; discipline – to purify or refine by freeing from faults.  Psalm 94:12 “Blessed is the man whom Thou dost CHASTEN, O LORD, and teaches him out of Thy law”  I think Hebrews 12 gives us additional understanding on perfect love.  “do not regard lightly the discipline of the LORD nor faint when you are reproved by Him; for THOSE WHOM THE LORD LOVES HE CHASTENS, AND SCOURGES  EVERY SON WHOM HE RECEIVES.  We had earthly fathers to discipline us, and we respected them; shall we not much rather be subject to the Father of spirits, and live?  For they chasten us for a short as seemed best to them, but He disciplines us for our good that we may share His holiness.  Now no CHASTENING for the present seems to be joyous, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, will it yield the peaceful fruit of righteousness.” Isaiah 53 tells us of the Father’s chastisement of our sins covered by His son, Jesus’s perfect love.  “He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we ourselves esteem him stricken, smitten of God and afflicted,  He was pierced through for our transgressions,  He was bruised for our iniquities; the CHASTISEMENT for our well being fell upon Him and by His scourging we are healed.  All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way; and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.”   What does Revelation 3 say to us?  “As many as I LOVE, I REBUKE AND CHASTEN;  be zealous therefore, and repent.  Behold, I stand at the door and knock;  if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him, and will dine with him, and he with Me.  To him that overcomes will I grant to him to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in His throne.”
