The #angel said it to Mary when he told her that she would bear the Savior, Jesus. Can you imagine? Your people have been waiting since the beginning for a messiah to save them and you have just been told that you are going to be a part of that story. What kind of peace was given to Mary that is available to us? Jesus Christ was fully God and fully man which was only possible through the virgin birth. What do Mary’s reactions to this message show us about how we should react to God’s Word? If you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, what should we do with this information? What does it mean to exalt the name of Jesus? And how can we extend the fame of Jesus?

Brother Tommy explains the message given to Mary before His birth. An angel comes to Mary and says miraculous details about what is to come. How will she give birth without losing her virginity? What will her baby be like? What kind of future will He have? Did the angel give her proof of what he was saying? Who could go beyond the rules of conception but the Creator of the process? What does this mean to us personally about being born again?

Last week, we heard how #Jesus showed He was the source of #life. This week, we hear what He said to clarify that He is that source. Jesus and His disciples were surrounded by agriculture and one of the biggest crops and even their national symbol had something in common. All through the Old Testament the nation of Israel was referred to as a grape vine and not always in a positive way. But Christ said that He is the true vine. In what ways is Jesus Christ the vine that is true and perfect? If Jesus is the vine, who are the branches? Why is that important? What happens to a branch apart from the vine? Once the branch is attached to the vine, how does it produce fruit? What kind of fruit would you reasonably expect from a grape vine? What kind of fruit does the Bible say we can expect from our vine?

Jesus made that bold claim in John 14:6 and as God’s son he is able to back it up. He is also uniquely qualified to work in our lives to bring us joy, real joy. Paul closes his letter to the Christians at Philippi by wishing God’s grace upon them. What is grace? Can we earn it through good works or behavior? What are the means of grace? What are the types of grace? Who is our source of God’s grace?

When you think ahead to the inevitable end of this #life, do you feel #scared, #anxious, #confused, or #excited? Christians have something to look forward to at the end of this life. Not in the sense that they can’t wait, but that there is a reward at the end of the race. Paul wrote to the church at Philippi, who were Roman citizens, to remind them that they were also citizens of an even better place. Where should our focus be? We look forward to the return of the Savior. How should we prepare? Who is the Savior, is it a politician, a celebrity, or a current leader? What will be different about Jesus when He returns in the fullness of God? Is it possible to be so heavenly minded that you’re of no earthly good?

Today, we hear part one of Paul’s letter to the Philippians about profit or gain from his jail cell. Talk about isolated. Last week, we heard about all the things Paul did to be righteous counted for nothing and became a loss. What did he find that was and for us is profitable? Have you lost anything to gain knowledge of Jesus Christ? Is there anything in your life that you would not lose to get more knowledge of the Lord and Savior? Guess what that’s called? An idol. What kind of robe can we receive by trading in our fig leaf? How deep can our knowledge of Christ become? What are we to do with that knowledge once we’ve received it? What can we gain by rearranging our priorities this way?
