Recipe for Revival

19820207 Recipe For Revival - Rev. Tommy Jones

With the #election coming up tomorrow for President of the United States, there has been much talk about what this nation needs  to survive and thrive.  Both the #Trump and #Hillary camps claim to have the answers.  But what does the Bible say about what makes a nation great?  What would revival do for this nation or any other?  What are the ingredients necessary for revival?  What does prayer have to do with it?  How is prayer like a fountain pen?  How often should we pray?  What do people have to do with revival?  What kind of example are you setting?  Have you invited anyone to church lately?  What kind of message needs to be delivered?  What kind of power can we expect from mixing all these ingredients together?

Death

19880612pm Death - Rev. Tommy Jones

#Halloween, #DayOfTheDead, #Zombies, #Vampires – what do all these things have in common?  Our fascination with death.  Does it mean the same thing to everybody?  Is there more than one type of death?  How is it possible to be physically alive and spiritually dead?  What is the second death?  How can we avoid it?  Was man created to die?  What happens to the soul and body after physical death?  What happens to a person’s consciousness after death?  The best way to start living and quell your fear of dying is to ask Jesus to be your Lord and Savior.

To Be Continued

How best do we carry on with the ministry of #JesusChrist?  He sent His followers out to the ends of the Earth to spread the #Gospel (Good news).  But what should that look like?  What were Jesus’ thoughts and feelings toward the poor?  Is there more than one kind of poverty?  Is His message just for the poor?  What about the broken hearted?  He also mentioned helping those held captive.  My mind goes immediately to the victims of human trafficking, but as Brother Tommy points out there are many other types of captivity.  How do we restore sight to the blind?   How do we comfort the bruised?  What does it mean to proclaim the Year of the Lord?  So who are we to reach out to with this message?

Word of Coronation

19840610 Word Of Coronation - Rev. Tommy Jones

Last week, we heard #JesusChrist speak His last words to us before His ascension to His throne in Heaven.  But, this week we hear what the angels said right after to give us hope for the future.  I mean, if Christ had told us to go out and tell the World and then went back to Heaven, that would be great.  Right?  But wait, there’s more.  Think about this miracle, Jesus ascended back to the Father in a physical body.  That should tell us something about the floating on a cloud and playing a harp idea.  How long was Jesus on Earth in His new body after the resurrection?  Where have we heard this number before?  Probably the most intriguing thing about the new body to Brother Tommy was the recorded incidence of Jesus eating.  What did His 40 days of appearances prove to anyone who is looking for God?  Why did He leave?  What did the angels say about the future that could be good news or bad depending on your current relationship to Jesus Christ?

Word of Commission

Why didn’t #JesusChrist give #instructions to His disciples before He was crucified?  How much more weight did it hold when He gave them marching orders after the Resurrection?  Where did Jesus have everyone meet for this delivery of a blueprint for the future?  What power does Christ claim to have?  Whose side does that make you want to be on?  To whom was this commission directed?  Once again Jesus packs a world of instruction into a short, simple directive.  What comforting promise is given along with this mandate?

Word of Confirmation

How long did #JesusChrist stick around after His #resurrection, appearing to His disciples and various other people?  What were His #Last Words?  To whom did Jesus reveal Himself  on the road to Emmaus after His resurrection?  You would think it would be one of His inner circle, but it wasn’t.  How is this comforting to us?  How does this episode reflect how God concerns Himself with our mood?  How did they not know immediately who Jesus was?  Would the Lord have really kept going down the road and not revealed Himself if they had not invited Him to stay?  What emotional response told them that Jesus was who He said He was?  What did they do about it?

Word of Committal

Today, we come to the very #LastWords of #Jesus on the cross.  But, thankfully they are not the last words Christ would speak on Earth.  What can these words teach us about how to live?  How to die?  What does this phrase have to do with a Hebrew bedtime prayer?  How does our relationship to God, the Father, affect our outlook on death?  How do we get a relationship with God (through Jesus Christ, His Son)?

Word of Completion

As important as #Jesus Christ’s work was on the #cross, why is it important that the story doesn’t end there?  What was the gravity of the statement ‘It is finished’?  How do we know from His choice of words that this is not an expression of victimhood?  Has there ever been another person on Earth who accomplished everything that they set out to do?  How did this pertain to the traditional order of the priesthood and the sacrificial system?
