Survey of Stewardship

19750105 Survey Of Stewardship - Rev. Tommy Jones

Would it shock you to find out that it was never #God’s plan for #Government to provide all of our needs?  How would you feel if you found out that the Bible states that God provides for us and even provides us with extra in order that we may bless others and that we will be judged accordingly?  What is the purpose of stewardship?  What does Genesis tell us about why we are here?  What is the plan of stewardship?  Do you hold your bank accountable for your deposits?  Of course you do.  Do you get upset when your $10 deposit doesn’t earn a million dollars in interest?  Of course not.  How much more so will a perfect God expect us to be responsible with what He has given to us?  Is God just concerned about what we do with our money?  What about our time, our talents, and our lives?  What is the relationship between giving and living?

Think Small

Bible Audio Blog
19830701pm Think Small - Rev. Tommy Jones

Now that we have #celebrated the birth of the baby #Jesus, let me encourage you to think about what that means in your life.  It can be overwhelming unless you think small.  Where do we start?  What does influence have to do with ripples on a lake?  From this passage, what can we see that Christ expects from us in terms of loving others?  How do we turn thought into action?  What does the reaction of the audience in these verses tell us about their motives?

How To Grow

Bible Audio Blog
19861102 How To Grow - Rev. Tommy Jones

Physical #growth occurs naturally in living things, but how about #spiritual growth?  Do we have a choice in our original or first birth?  How about the second?  How does this second birth compare to the first?  What are the impediments to growth after this second birth?  Remove of obstacles is not all we have to do for growth, we also need food.  What kind of food does it take to grow spiritually?

How To Cure Snakebite

Bible Audio Blog
19860928 How To Cure Snakebite - Rev. Tommy Jones

#SnakeBite, why would you want to know this unless you had been #attacked?  This is not a message about handling #dangerous #snakes.  But, what if I told you that we have all been bitten by this one old rotten snake?  First, what are the symptoms?  Take the Israelites in the wilderness, what was so distasteful to God about their behavior?  How are we different today?  What’s God’s answer to their rebellion?  How about ours?  What is harder, following Christ or not following Him?  What is the law of sin and death?  So what is the cure for this fatal bite?  Back to the Israelites for a minute, why didn’t God answer their petition the way that they wanted?  How does the snake symbolism change in this story?  Is there more than one cure for snake bite?  This cure is simple and yet so many who are in danger of dying refuse it.

How To Please God

Bible Audio Blog
19860921 How To Please God - Rev. Tommy Jones

#DIY or do it yourself is very popular on #Youtube.  Most of the titles start with ‘How To.’  Well, we have three of them before we hear the Christmas message later this month.  Is it possible to please God?  What does the Bible say?  Is there more than one way?  Is there an essential element required first, kind of like making sure you have the right tool before you start?  What is Faith?  I have heard people say they won’t put their Faith in anyone or anything.  But, how could they get through a day?  What are some roadblocks to greater Faith?  What is important about God wanting us to have Faith in Him?  How did Jesus show us this was the case?  What is wrong with a lack of Faith?  What are the rewards of Faith in God?  How would you like five steps to getting a stronger Faith?

The Person Who Pities

Bible Audio Blog
19840610 The Person Who Pities - Rev. Tommy Jones

Last week, we learned why we should always give #thanks.  This week, we will learn what happens when we ignore this advice and start down a path of #self #pity.  We tend to think of biblical heroes as perfect, infallible, or at the very least happy and enthused.  But, are they?  Elijah was a great man, a prophet, one whom God loved and still he found himself dejected under a juniper tree.  What toll does it take to serve the Lord and bring truth to people?  Is a Christian life going to be easy and bring popularity?  What happens when we lose focus on the important things?  Does God speak to us in the chaos of current events?  Who do you trust and who do you fear?  Is it possible that there could be more going on than we can see right now?

Try Thanksgiving

Bible Audio Blog
19871122pm Try Thanksgiving - Rev. Tommy Jones

As we approach a truly American holiday this week, #Thanksgiving, there is a lesson in it for the whole world.  How do I know that it applies to the whole world?  Because it is in God’s Word to humanity, the Bible.  “In everything, give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” I Thessalonians 5:18  What is it about human nature that makes us ungrateful?  How is ingratitude a negative feedback loop?  How do we get out of it?  Why should we make a conscious attempt to be thankful?  Who does it help?  Is there a right and a wrong way to be thankful?

The Magnetism of Jesus

Bible Audio Blog
19830731 The Magnetism Of Jesus - Rev. Tommy Jones

What or who can make us see beyond #self?  #Jesus made startling claims while He was here on Earth.  How could He back up all of theses statements?  Did His followers impress people?  Did His geographical location make anybody pay attention?  Was a long life something to which He could look forward?  Without His death and resurrection there would have been no consequence to His ministry and no forgiveness of sin.  What did Jesus mean when He said that He would draw all men to Himself?
